I grew up in the small coastal California town of Half Moon Bay surrounded by the ocean and coastal range, adventure and nature easily fostered my creativity.
I have always been drawn to art and making things, but found a true passion for jewelry. I also have always been a people person and love meeting new people to hear their stories. The connections and stories behind the wearable art enthralled my hopeless romantic soul and I fell in love.
One of my first jobs was at a fine art jewelry store, in my small hometown. Owned by an amazing Husband and wife team.
Watching the one owner behind the bench and the other curate amazing artists is where my education and obsession for all things jewelry took off. I joined on many buying adventures absorbing all that I could and attended the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) for more knowledge on gems and metals.
I left home for Portland and established myself in the Pacific Northwest. Working with Stephen Vincent Jewelers, an established boutique fine jewelry store, I was able to expand my knowledge, and diversify my jewelry experience. Learning many more aspects of the jewelry industry I found love with designing. Clients brought me antique and heirloom family pieces that were desperate for a modern redesign while retaining the bones of the originals- allowing those pieces to live on for today's wearer. The stories of these forgotten pieces, along with the excitement of creation is when I found I was truly hooked. Additionally, I created engagement rings, wedding bands, and custom pieces that would stand the test of time, while creating a bond with customers to be there for them from simple repairs to milestone moments.
Three years ago, my family and I relocated to Sioux Falls, SD, where I was able to launch Avery Sterling Designs. At my home studio, I create several lines of eclectic pieces and welcome any custom work from both long-time customers and new ones. I continue to resurrect pieces from the scrap pile for my one-of-a-kind line as well as doing custom rebuilds for people using the dregs of their jewelry boxes. Seamlessly providing services to both local customers and those across the country. Along with my passion for jewelry, I am a mom to three amazing kids and have a myriad of plants and animals on our every busy acreage. Balancing my passion for jewelry and my love of nature and adventure.
There are so many different aspects that I love about my work, but my main focus has always been to make jewelry accessible to everyone. having a quality piece of jewelry doesn't always have to be expensive or overwhelming. helping people find the perfect piece that fits their lifestyle and budget gives me such joy. from making new pieces for my line to taking old things and re-imaging them, everyone deserves a little sparkle.
